Looks at poll results

Sun Dec 14, 2008, 8:43 PM
the whole raptors and feathers poll had some funny results

23 deviants said Some of them had it head to toe, maybe larger ones had crests perhaps

This is about what I think really, less someone shows me otherwise, which is impossible since they are all gone

12 deviants said Small ones had them, larger ones did not.

Perhaps at birth they would need them, even larger ones, so I'm sure something would be left. Again, there is a list of dinos they have found evidence, but making them look like a turkey or chicken I find a little retarded

10 deviants said They did not have feathers, its all a hoax, they placed them there.

While at first I really hated the feather theory down to everything since I grew up with a certain image of them in my head, that and I am a total reptile nut, I think saying such a thing when they have found some evidence is a little silly. Also, birds and dinosaurs are cousins from what I heard, both came from the same base, but split..or something like that.

6 deviants said Raptors were reptile like, not birds, but not cold blooded.

Never heard of a warm blooded reptile, but I was not around, still a little silly.

3 deviants said All of em had it, head to toe

I sometimes wonder, did some people flock to raptors more when the newer theories came along, and would they flee from it if they found the evidence was planted? Eh,dunno. Larger ones would probably not need all that insulation as they got larger, but what do I know.

3 deviants said Raptors had cold blood an needed hot weather

I cannot picture raptors being this way, bunch of animals wake up, and move extra slow...

2 deviants said Raptors had forked tongues and dragged their swishy tails.

This one was a joke, I added it for lulz

Some believe that all theropods had feathers, including tyrannosaurus.

Personally, I agree with the majority.

Larger ones would not need it really, maybe some remaining fluff from being a hatchling. Since we don't really know for sure with everything, its left to how the artist wants to depict them, as long as the animal's frame is correct. Though you will get elitists from both sides who will go off saying you are doing it wrong.

I find it kind of funny just how argumentative some people get over this issue. =P

"Raptors look stupid with feathers!"

"No asshole they look stupid without them!!!1"

Seriously people. Calm down. =P

Personally I'm of the mindframe that the larger ones were not fully feathered, but all the smaller species would have needed the insulation (and some, like microraptor, absolutely had feathers--they were designed for gliding!)

But if that were proven wrong, oh well, I'll go with the scientific evidence. Just because you're attached to a specific interpretation of what they looked like, does not mean that is what they had.

I think a lot of paleontologists believe that feathering in dromaeosaurs was for display purposes or hunting/balance purposes rather than for temperature insulation. In general, animal clades like that of dromaeosauridae tend to be extremely similar anatomically, and would likely share such characteristics as type of integument.

Not trying to be an elitist or anything, but I do think this issue is really less about opinion and more about scientific probability.

Yeah, people do get very bent out of shape over this, and will argue their view till they are blue in the face.

Show me a live raptor or at least an imprint that shows it, and I'll certainly go with it.

I like em either way, though knowing my luck I would end up being allergic to them.

I sort of made the poll out of random curiosity to see what people thought.

I tend to go with what is proven right or wrong, or some kind of evidence.

Though I can't really look at one that has none at all without feeling that it has something missing.

Well, there is some kind of evidence. Several animals in the dromaeosaur clade have been found with feather imprints (Microraptor, Sinornithosaurus, Cryptovolans) or feather quill-node attach points on the arm (Velociraptor). The number of dromaeosaurs with documented scale imprints is 0. Since all of these animals are closely related, it makes sense to assume that all of them had at least some sort of feathering.
